I am not a techie, but I am like most of you, relying a lot on my mobile device in my daily life. For a while now, I have been looking for a mobile that will be the perfect companion for my role as a food blogger, a mom and a student. I asked my husband who is a tech blogger to suggest one and he said “It is never about the price range or the specifications when it comes to buying a mobile, it is a whole experience. The mobile is now a lifestyle aid and no longer just a communication device. So think like that when you look for a device” At first, I was quite puzzled by what he said but eventually it started making sense. I wanted a device that has a great display, good memory, can take vivid pictures and run for 10-12 hours on a single charge. So which one? Then I evaluated a lot of options and finally froze on the ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser. Why? What is my experience with it? Read on
The phone has a very premium feel and has an excellent design. It has a slightly curved back that has now quite literally become a trademark of the Zenfone 2 series. The dimensions of the phone have been thought out to fit the hand quite comfortably and grip very easily. The other ASUS trademark feature – the volume rocker being behind the phone right below the camera helps a lot. The side is devoid of any buttons and helps grip the phone. The rear cover has a finish that feels like matte. Even when I had sweaty hands, one brisk wipe with a cloth and the back was clean again. I liked that as I used the phone to take a lot of food pictures while in the kitchen.
The screen is very tough and scratch resistant, I dropped it a few times in the kitchen and there wasn’t any damage. I am able to carry it in a bag with keys, pens and other stuff, it does not get scratched easily, it is made of Gorilla Glass 4. The touch response was good. I was not able to see any lag at all. It supports two SIM cards and a micro SD card. I put in my 32 GB card and the phone has 16 GB internal storage out of which around 11 GB is available. So, for a food blogger, storing images, recording conversations with chefs and making very decent HD videos are all ok as there is enough space in the device.
I took the device out on a few food reviews and other outings, this is where I started to appreciate it’s most important and impressive feature – the camera! The Rear camera has a 13 MP resolution that clicks pictures 4128 x 3096 pixels, has laser autofocus and a dual-LED (dual tone) flash. What does this mean? It means simply amazing food pictures where the colors and depth are brilliant and clarity is amazing. It has Laser Autofocus that helps the camera to focus on the subject in a matter of seconds and hence clicking is smooth and really fast! The Super Resolution mode works like a dream. The pictures I got with that mode are far better than any pictures that I have taken with other cameras that have even higher resolution. I am sharing a few pictures below, see for yourself.
The front camera is impressive too. It has a 5 MP lens with wide angle capability. The selfies are good and the beautification effects are brilliant. I felt like a model clicking myself with it wherever I went. The battery is very good, there was a day when I had three hotel reviews and charged once in the morning, when I came back in the evening, I still had 40% battery left. That is very useful when you have multiple food reviews a day
The display is brilliant, the colors look very nice. It can play high resolution videos and display HD pictures very vividly. There are a lot of utilities that are useful in the phone, Photo Collage is very useful for a food blogger. Also the laser ruler to estimate distances between an object and us is very nifty. The phone runs the Android Lollipop. It plays music well and the good battery helps to listen to songs over a long recipe in the kitchen without draining off much power.
Multi-Language support in the ASUS Keyboard is useful when I have to type out the native names of ingredients or recipes on my blog. It is really very intuitive and easy to use. I tried replacing my primary phone with the Zenfone 2 Laser and have never looked back since then.
So, in summary, here is what I like about the Zenfone 2 Laser – it looks brilliant, has an amazing camera that can focus really fast. Not only that, the pictures are pro-quality and very vivid. The battery lasts a working day without hassles. Has dual SIM 4G support. All in all, this phone is exactly what a food blogger like me needs. The best part is the price, very affordable. I am very happy with this one and do not see myself changing devices soon .
Seems like a fab Phone to me! I’d surely give it a try.
