Milagu rasam is a famous Tamil Nadu recipe. It is usually prepared in winter season. It is very effective when you have cold and cough. It tastes too good with steaming rice with little ghee. You can also drink it like a soup.
Ingredients: |

Tamarind | – small lemon sized |
Asafoetida | – ¼ tsp. |
Curry leaves | – a handful |
Salt | – as needed |
For grinding: |
|
Ghee or oil | – 1 tsp. |
Pepper | – 2 tsp. |
Cumin seeds | – 1 tsp. |
Toor dhal | – 3 tsp. |
Red chillies | – 3 |
For seasoning: |
|
Ghee or oil | – 1 tsp. |
Mustard | – 1 tsp. |
Method:
- Soak tamarind in hot water and take juice.
- In a pan, heat ghee and fry the ingredients given for grinding to a reddish brown colour.
- When cooled grind nicely.
- Now mix this ground mixture in tamrind water and add 3 cups of water.
- Add salt and boil for few minutes.
- Add curry leaves for garnishing.
- Season with mustard in ghee.
